⚠️

Common Bar Chart Mistakes

Avoid these
  • Describing bars one by one instead of comparing — always group and compare.
  • Forgetting units — always say "million", "%", "kg" etc. after every number.
  • Saying "the bar for X is tall" — never describe the visual. Describe the data.
  • Listing every bar without grouping similar ones — find patterns, then describe.
  • Using "increase/decrease" for bar charts that show one time point — use "higher/lower" instead.
